How did you first get into chess, and what kept you playing? “In middle school I injured my back and school had me take chess class instead of PE.”
What brought you to the Eugene Chess Club, and what keeps you coming back? "Web page. Great Players, great people, and great place.
Do you have a favorite opening as White or Black, and what do you like about it? “Scotch game opening, open the game and develop really quickly.”
What’s one thing you’ve learned recently that noticeably improved your game? “Practicing openings and being consistent. Coming to the chess club.”
Do you prefer to play on line or over the board and why? “Over the board. I can focus easier.”
Is there a player — famous or local — who inspires you, and why? "Mikhail Tal, because he was able to sacrifice pieces to gain position, and great mates.”
If you could give one piece of advice to someone new walking into the club for the first time, what would it be? “Everyone is really nice and open to meet new people, have a great time and just have a chill time.”
